Fixing a Ruined Ending

At some point, I came to realize that I had transmigrated into an extra in a novel famous for setting the internet ablaze with its ruined ending. Would you believe me if I told you the ending involved the protagonist falling to darkness and destroying the entire country? And would you believe that the reason for his fall was the death of his closest childhood friend? And would you believe the cause of that childhood friend’s death… was overwork? All of this was the ending of a single novel. And I, having transmigrated into Blen, an extra destined to die somewhere in the future, made a resolution. I would rewrite this ruined ending. I would prevent that childhood friend’s death so the protagonist could never turn dark. And so, Blen volunteered to become the aide of the Minister of the Imperial Palace’s Magic Department, determined to manage his every move. “If this is the best you can do organizing documents, why bother carrying that head around? Is it not simply heavy?” But here was the problem. The childhood friend was a hopeless workaholic, a cold-blooded man infamous for his venomous tongue. Day after day, swallowing curses aimed at his damnable boss, Blen at last succeeded in preventing the childhood friend’s death. Now, he was slowly easing his way toward quitting his job and leaving for good, but… “Why are you not sleeping? I told you that quality sleep is important. And please, make sure to process my resignation letter tomorrow.” “…I cannot sleep. It feels empty next to me.” “Excuse me?” “If you have nothing to do, why not lie down?” But why on earth is he not processing my resignation letter?
